[KR735] Keiser Report: Capitalism Without Capital?!

We discuss the French being able to work 20 percent less to produce the same amount the average worker in Britain produces. Just as oil frackers must pump faster and faster, harder and harder to keep current on their debt repayments, so too must an overly burdened UK household in a speculative economy producing less and less value. In the second half, Max interviews Aleksandar Vidovic of Salviol about the size of the financial fraud market and what his company is doing to shrink it.

@Jogador, regarding your very interesting link to Infowars’ “NSA Quantum Computer Decryption, that takes me back to 1968/69 at Wellington College.

My Mathematics Tutor, dear Mr Waghorn, a brilliant Cricketer, had told me that it was a waste of my time to study mathematics in Class, as I had already won a Rolls Royce scholarship to go up to London University. It would be much better if I did my Physics Project at the back of the class. as long as I made no noise.

“By the way Alastair, what is your Physics Project?”

“I am working on Dr Brian Josephson’s superconducting junctions Sir!”

“And what do you hope to achieve Alastair?”

“I think we might some day be able to develop a Quantum Computer, Sir, I read about it in the latest issue of ??? in the Science Reading Room, Sir.”

“And how would that work Alastair?”

“Well Sir, the Japanese have this ‘Chopsticks Method of Multiplication” (See Pinterest Link)… I want to study how rods of copper laid over one another, like the Japanese Chopsticks Mathematics, react to vibrations generated by two signal generators in the “X” and “Y” planes!”

“Oh NO! Alastair, I can’t allow you to make any noise in class, it would be too distracting!”

“No Sir! the noise would be in the ultrasonic audio spectrum I will use those cheap Piezo Tweeters from the Maplin Catalogue as my transducers, they can be made highly directional as well. Not enen a dog can hear at the frequency I will use Sir.”

Which may explain why Rolls Royce assigned me to study at their subsidiary Vibration Engineers on ‘The Golden Mile’, Delaney Galley. They were working on The Garard Turntable, and the Lynx Helicopter Rotor Blade Drive Train while I was there. Willie Ross, Senior Sales Engineer was my Mentor. and I remember seeing the largest Valve Amplifier in my Life. A Room full of gigantic steel cylinder vacuum valves. The Test Room was suspended in Partial Vacuum, and had a lovely cartoon drawing framed IN PLASTIC on the wall. By Emet the famous cartoonist. It was a parody of the vibration test rig.

Rolls Royce gave me a Ford Cortina Company Car to travel from London University…blah. I really can’t discuss what I was researching, even today! …That Christmas 1969, I was reversing the Ford Cortina on the ice, with the wheels spinning, and suddenly there was traction!!… Oops! CRASH” I bumbed into the Black Herse of Mr Davis the Local Funeral Director, who was visiting The Revd. Holly who lived across the road, at No 1 Oaklands Rd. THE REPAIR COST ME MOST THAT YEARS STUDENT GRANT! …. I was in a hell of a pickle! …but happy days!

I give these details, because I am so often accused of being a bullshitter! They can all be checked out! And my Name is emblazoned in Gold Letters at London University Alumni Board!

    “A Lucid Interval

    Brian Hayes

Give a digital computer a problem in arithmetic, and it will grind away methodically, tirelessly, at gigahertz speed, until ultimately it produces the wrong answer. The cause of this sorry situation is not that software is full of bugs—although that is very likely true as well—nor is it that hardware is unreliable. The problem is simply that computers are discrete and finite machines, and they cannot cope with some of the continuous and infinite aspects of mathematics. Even an innocent-looking number like 1/10 can cause no end of trouble: In most cases, the computer cannot even read it in or print it out exactly, much less perform exact calculations with it.

Errors caused by these limitations of digital machines are usually small and inconsequential, but sometimes every bit counts. On February 25, 1991, a Patriot missile battery assigned to protect a military installation at Dahrahn, Saudi Arabia, failed to intercept a Scud missile, and the malfunction was blamed on an error in computer arithmetic. The Patriot’s control system kept track of time by counting tenths of a second; to convert the count into full seconds, the computer multiplied by 1/10. Mathematically, the procedure is unassailable, but computationally it was disastrous. Because the decimal fraction 1/10 has no exact finite representation in binary notation, the computer had to approximate. Apparently, the conversion constant stored in the program was the 24-bit binary fraction 0.00011001100110011001100, which is too small by a factor of about one ten-millionth. The discrepancy sounds tiny, but over four days it built up to about a third of a second. In combination with other peculiarities of the control software, the inaccuracy caused a miscalculation of almost 700 meters in the predicted position of the incoming missile. Twenty-eight soldiers died.

Of course it is not to be taken for granted that better arithmetic would have saved those 28 lives. (Many other Patriots failed for unrelated reasons; some analysts doubt whether any Scuds were stopped by Patriots.) And surely the underlying problem was not the slight drift in the clock but a design vulnerable to such minor timing glitches. Nevertheless, the error in computer multiplication is mildly disconcerting. We would like to believe that the mathematical machines that control so much of our lives could at least do elementary arithmetic correctly.

One approach to dealing with such numerical errors is a technique called interval arithmetic. It does nothing directly to improve the accuracy of calculations, but for every number it provides a certificate of accuracy—or the lack of it. The result of an ordinary (non-interval) computation is a single number, a point on the real number line, which lies at some unknown distance from the true answer. An interval computation yields a pair of numbers, an upper and a lower bound, which are guaranteed to enclose the exact answer. Maybe you still don’t know the truth, but at least you know how much you don’t know….. (continued to page 5)

Aqua Regia is nasty, and the fumes should not be inhaled! It is a job for a sunny day out of doors. Follow safety guidelines and no harm will come to you. 40. Youri Carma says:

    @Capt. Ray

It’s silly to suggest that the terrorist have to come from Alps just because the plane crashed there. Planes can be remotely controlled nowadays, for instance, look it up. Other example, a small bomb could have been planted inside the plane before take off, to mess with the controls.

Don’t count on whistle blowers because, for instance, The Netherlands still hasn’t said anything meaningful about flight MH17. The Dutch could have made a deal because they suddenly got assigned the task of finding the unfindable flight MH370 just after the MH17 crash. Go figure.

To be clear I am not saying that terrorist are involved but just try to sum up some weird things.

The may blame it on a suicidal German pilot since they state that ‘Germanwings pilot locked out of cockpit before crash’. How do they know that? They’re cooking the story.

I am especially prayerful for General Breedlove, who I like to annoy as often as I may. In the Royal Navy a Chaplain is without rank, and neither can he or she be outranked! Technically I am equal rank to any Admiral or lowest Rating!

Capt. Ray, So it seems you have tasted salt….BRAVO!

Last week Sainsbury’s were getting rid of some USB fans at £2.99, down from £9.99. I bought two of them to demonstrate how a, Inertia Drive works.

Turn one of those fans through a half turn and the rotation is in a counter direction. but the flow of air is backwards, not forwards. Use a “U” of bendy air coil reinforced bendy tube on one side, and on the other narrow the air with a plastic funnel cut from two fizzy pop bottles feed the air into another bendy “U” tube about a third of the diameter.

The result is a ‘donut’ thick on one side, thin on the other. with two USB Fans at the join. Float this on a block of polystyrene with a Lap-top as Power Source and the fast moving air produces a greater centrifugal force on the thin side than on the thick side. The formula id (m*V^2)/r, mass x Velocity Squared divided by radius. Air does not weigh very much, so don’t expect a lot of thrust! 1/3 diameter = 9 times the velocity. 9 x 9 = 81, but the mass is nine times less, so it’s back to 9 again. But nine times more centrifugal force on one side is cool.

I works much better with water! but you will need to buy one of the above, or a small battery bilge pump or two if you want to test the principle. Demonstration to be posted up on …You guessed it…. “U” Tube!

    It’s my silly joke!

A coil of Wire and Sticky Tape can improvise the ‘bendy tube’ first get a tube and wind sticky tape with the sticky side up, then coil the wire or thick nylon as used in a grass strimmer, and finally wind more sticky tape sticky, side down. Use two tubes, one thick one thin.

  51. @Youri Carma, I dreamt about you, and awoke about a couple of hours ago. At Wellington I was in the Third Rugby 15, Wellington occasionally prided itself as never being beaten in any sporting fixture! So even the third 15 was good! I played ‘Hooker’ and was 6 ft. 2 inches tall in my Rugby Boots. Hookers had to wear a ‘Cricket Box’. groin injuries were common. I had my back injured in a rough scrum, and never fully recovered. This is one of the great conspiracy theories. The goal posts keep moving as well! The debunkers are debunked then those debunkers are debunked! What is clear is than many of the passengers who died that day were vehemently opposed to “The Federal Reserve Act”, not least the Astor Family who were determined to kill the Bill for a second time!

I note that some Documentaries have deceptive titles, they use ‘Straw Man’ tactics to debunk the conspiracy. Build up a case for the conspiracy and conveniently destroy the argument with damning evidence! Cherry picking the worst conspiracy bandwagon types.

The Debts run up by The Federal Reserve System, demanded “Perpetual War”… and that is a simple fact. During War, Fiat Scrip Money can’t be challenged in any Court of Law! No matter how worthless it becomes!

” ..The Ukrainian state arose out of the Soviet Union. It was together with the Ukrainians that Russians, Jews, Georgians, Chechens, and Armenians rebuilt that post-war Ukrainian Soviet Republic. Not one American dollar was spent of the development and rebuilding of Ukraine after WWII. Since ancient times, Moscow and Kiev built the state together; to this day, Russians and Ukrainians are fraternal peoples.

From this it follows that the US has no business advising Russia how to conduct itself with neighboring and friendly people. The supply of weapons to Ukraine will be viewed by us as a signal to act accordingly. We will begin delivery of new weapons to Mexico to resume debate on the legal status of territories annexed by the US, namely the American states of California, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and portions of Wyoming.

We reserve the right to hold conferences in Russia, Mexico, and America with agendas about the liberation of these states from the US, and the supply of weapons to the partisans there.

This was the 2012 UK Defence Minister announcing the replacement of our ‘Vanguard Class Submarines’… A multi-billion project with at least 10,000 jobs and plenty of spin-off. Design proposals are being submitted even now.

This Russian concept is rather jerky! not good for a stealthy submarine. The concept is great though. Our plan is to have a nuclear power plant, deliver a huge low voltage current to circulate molten low melting point eutectic alloy through a circular narrow pathway, with current flowing from top to bottom and visa versa up through concentric multiple circuits. Walls of strong block magnets separate each layer. The resistance is equal all the way round, but the rate of flow is a quarter velocity at the slow double width and double height part of the circuit. The Faraday motion remains in the same direction because the magnetic polarity reverses with each concentric circuit.

There are two mirror image multiple concentric molten metal circuits. This is to balance out gyroscopic forces. with contra-rotation. I picked up 4,500 little 30mm. x 10mm. x 2mm type N35 Neodymium magnets dirt cheap on ebay, because they had plating defects. The electroplate was deposited too fast, and the layers were not even, leading to some plate peeling off under heat expansion stress! But they were good enough for experiments.

We had quite a bit of Wood’s metal already in stock, we use it for bending small bore pipe. It comes out with boiling water and a steam flush. This prevents kinks….blah. Two plastic beakers one inside the other are fine. The magnets stick to the side walls by mutual attraction. Pour the molten Wood’s metal between the gap. A coil of Copper wire at top and bottom Then a bely of Current from a single cell of a Lead Acid Battery. Current can be limited with a few light bulbs in the circuit. at 2.3 volts, they will be very dim.

For multiple concentric layers that increases the conductive path length, it’s best to use epoxy impregnated glass fibre cloth. Model shops sell it. It’s also a Tricel speciality. The metal melts under resistive heating. Those joke teaspoons that melt when you stir a hot cup of tea. are made from a similar food safe eutectic alloy. Scrap alloy is cheaper. and contact with Copper does contaminate it. A very thin layer of graphite helps prevent this.

Our Sea-Dog Friend Capt. Ray, who likes to mess about in boats, might be interested in this comment. I will post drawings up on Pinterest some day soon.

The Defence Secretary will today (Monday) announce an additional £350M worth of funding for the next stage of design work for Successor, the future generation of UK nuclear-armed submarines.

This investment will sustain 1,200 UK jobs and makes clear the Government’s firm commitment to maintaining continuous at sea deterrence for future decades. The funding follows the initial £350M of design work announced earlier this year.

This announcement comes as Philip Hammond visited the home of the UK’s nuclear deterrent at Faslane on the Clyde and follows the successful firing of an unarmed Trident ballistic missile by HMS Vigilant during a test launch in the Atlantic Ocean last week.

HMS Vigilant is one of four Vanguard Class submarines which maintain the UK’s nuclear deterrent and this firing, the first in three years, confirms the credibility of the deterrent. The Vanguard submarines will be replaced from 2028 by the Successor which is currently being designed by British companies. As a result of today’s announcement, BAE Systems will proceed with an additional £315M worth of work, with a further £38M at Babcock.

    Defence Secretary Philip Hammond said:

“Our continuous submarine-based nuclear deterrent is the ultimate safeguard of our national security and the Government is committed to maintaining it, both now and in the future. The test firing and further investment in replacing the deterrent demonstrates that commitment. This latest expenditure for the next generation of nuclear-armed submarines is an investment in UK security and the British economy, sustaining high-quality jobs and vital skills.”

Commenting on the ongoing debate over Scottish independence, Mr Hammond said:

“We are confident that the Scottish people will choose to remain part of the United Kingdom. The Faslane complex is the largest employment site in Scotland with over 6,500 jobs underpinning the local economy. We have no plans to move the nuclear deterrent from the Clyde. On the contrary, we intend to move the Astute and Trafalgar Class attack submarines to Faslane, creating a further 1,500 jobs. The Scottish Government needs to explain how their policy would benefit Scotland’s economy and safeguard Scottish jobs.”

First Sea Lord Admiral Sir Mark Stanhope said:

“The Royal Navy has for over 43 years continuously operated the UK’s nuclear deterrent to stringent safety standards and HMS Vigilant’s latest test firing before she returns to the patrol cycle reflects that successful deterrence is based upon strong determination. One of the core roles of the Royal Navy, the Continuous At Sea Deterrent remains an enduring strategic capability, underpinning our nation’s commitment to the preservation of peace in our uncertain world.”

All Royal Navy submarines will be based at Faslane by 2017, including the Astute and Trafalgar class attack submarines, which – along with the Sandown Class Mine Counter Measure vessels – will increase the workforce at the site to over 8,000 by 2022.”

If using Wood’s metal, health and safety needs to be strictly observed. Lead and Cadmium are toxic, but Field’s metal that melts at 62 degrees is used for those joke teaspoons. So get into the “Joke Teaspoon business’ on Max Keiser’s Start-Join Project. April Fools is not far off. 😉

The snorkel (snuiver) is a Dutch invention. After the invasion of the Netherlands, the Germans had discovered in May 1940 that the Dutch submarines were equipped with this device. They foolishly had paid little attention to it because with this device a submarine is able to charge it’s batteries while cruising under water making them invisible to enemy radar. It was only at the end of WWII that they did see the practical use of this snorkel device and start equipping their U-boats with it. Too late I am afraid.

Have read a fascinating book of a Dutch submarine 021 during WWII which even managed to sink an U-Boat in a above water shoot out LOL. “Jonge Honden Oude Helden” by Jan Biesemaat. http://www.bol.com/nl/p/jonge-honden-oude-helden/1001004001464437/

I got them flying model helicopters years ago! Charlie, Hugh and George are great great grandchildren of King Edward. I have lost count of the ‘greats’. Alexandra who was 16th in line at birth has Amelia who is fast growing up. The Royal Brood is now so large they are all way down the line.

BUT Our lot are encouraged to serve their country. It’s almost an obligation. I listen to a lot of very anti=Royalty stuff, some of it posted here. “Terrible Tim Rifat” does like to slander British Royalty. Yes, King George who lost the Americas and was said to be mad, a case of porphoria (sp?) where the piss turns blue, was treated with a solution of alcohol that had absorbed the vital essence of crushed Egyptian Mummy skull. That was the type of quack medicine they used back then. Now all members of the Royal Family are accused of cannibalism! It’s highly probable King George had little choice in his treatment either!

The bottleneck with liquid cooling is room temperature. You can’t get beneath that unless you stream the liquid trough a colder environment.
