Mike Ruppert, RIP

Stacy Summary: Mike Ruppert has committed suicide (by self-inflicted gunshot wound).

Listen to the last podcast he recorded a few hours before he killed himself; from about 17.00 he asks his two co-hosts how they deal with the darkness and how they can carry on with all the news:

Here is the recent VICE documentary about Mike called Apocalypse, Man:

Here is the documentary Collapse based on his book:

And here is one of the more recent interviews we did with him:

Can’t believe it…I was a big follower of Mike having read his books several times and tuned into his radio show or guest appearances. I always tried to push his name and work on this website over the years….I’m very sad at the loss of one of my teachers…

  2. Paddy says:

This is horrible, another good soul leaves us in our hour of need. God speed fine sir.

  3. @Geek – yes, I thought of you as soon as I heard the news. Sad news, indeed. And it’s been nearly 2 years since we interviewed him, partly because our recording schedule in UK means it’s almost impossible to do interviews with West Coast guests. Wish we had done something to make it happen one more time.

  4. Dippy says:

I remember him on a KR.
    RIP Mike Ruppert.

    Sad news.

    RIP Mike Ruppert.
This planet earth is a gem in a barren universe although people don’t realize it. If this planet is being destroyed by greedy people, this will be the end of humanity as a whole. The tragic situation that we have now, has everything to do with our own spirituality.

Rest in Peace! You are now back in the big cycle. No more madness on earth, no more suffering for your very strong soul. Thank you for everything, you have been a great teacher, outspoken and on the spot (one fierce warrior among the widely ignored Cassandra Choir) and you definitely transformed me into one of the at least 100 monkeys.

As Mike was greatly inspired by John Trudell`s poems I am sure he would love to share this one: Close your eyes and listen in honor for MCR! Godspeed!

  11. ElliottTheDoor says:

I don’t believe it. He had just moved back to California and seemed his usual self on his Lifeboat Hour show he literally broadcasted on Sunday.

Stacy, I found out about you and Max through him when he had Max on his radio show few years back. And that’s just one of the many ways he changed the way I see the world now. I could list pages on how much I learnt from him. It is a really sad day.

  12. @ElliottTheDoor – yes, apparently, he killed himself soon after recording his latest radio podcast

  13. flipper says:

He’d been suffering from severe depression for some time; he put on a brave face, looking to spirituality for his own salvation from personal torment. It’s sad that neither that, nor a new girlfriend, the Californian sun, new interest from the media, nor the support of friends could end the hell he was experiencing.
Listen to his last broadcast carefully; he talks of waking terror, his mind like a vulture, the horror of the Seattle airport. He wasn’t thinking straight.
I’m pissed off that no-one could tell that he was clinically depressed, and needed medication and psychiatric help. Fuck doing grief work, Carolyn Baker style – he needed distraction and a bloody long holiday with his new love.

  14. Spaniard says:

RIP, Michael- after all you will not get to see the hundredth monkey moment, but you certainly contributed your fair share to get there.

I admired this man and loved his character. I talked about him to relatives and friends and shared his work with people. He will be missed and remembered.

  15. Spaniard says:

For fucks sakes- he did not commit suicide! That last show of his is beyond belief. I am shocked.

  16. Mother Earth says:

Sounds like these two ladies where talking him into his suicide.

  17. fred says:

considering all the people like him that have been murdered, I really doubt it was suicide.. of course there’s no mention of him in the MSM.

  18. Snorky says:

    RIP.

  19. fred says:

ok I listened to the podcast, he had no intention of offing himself at that stage.

  20. Tom Not Terrific says:

I’m not 100% convinced that it was suicide.

  21. Mother Earth says:

Really, these NLP saturated ladies have done him in. They are everywhere, midlife crisis, no purpose in life, lets start screwing people over with NLP. These women openly confess they are thankfull for all they recieved (for the dumb this means thankfull for fossil fuels and the people that secured them). Ruppert was hanging with the wrong crowd at the wrong time.

  22. Chris says:

He did some great work, I had the utmost respect for him. It would have been far easier for him to have ignored some of the things that he exposed, and he could have had a quiet life. I’m grateful that he didn’t, and I hope he found some solace and pleasure from life before this sad end. No doubt Bush will live to be 100; it’s the way things go on this planet.

  23. Flopot says:

That’s horrible news. RIP. He always seemed bright and genial on KR.

  24. Rod says:

15 years (by 2030) and all human life is extinct due to irreversible climate change and Fukushima #4 poisoning the world..
But at least we informed humans can die in the knowledge that the money sucking parasitic leech bankers and politicians will die too and their greed counted for sweet FA in the big scheme of things.
    RIP Mike :-(

  25. @fred – he sounds suicidal to me in the last podcast; he also mentions suicide and the option of committing suicide several times in that 10 minute Vice piece.

  26. Chip Tatum says:

I believe Mike fell to the new Electronic Mind Control, feeding thoughts of darkness and inevitability into his mind. This new method uses electronic media which Mike was always using.

  27. Karen K says:

I agree with Chip Tatum on the mind control. He could have been targeted through many avenues to kill himself.

  28. Marshall says:

No..No..No I do not want to hear this !
The last video footage I saw of him was sitting in front of an open wood campfire looking very bedraggled. Be at peace Mike, you have the respect of millions ! This is terribly sad.

  29. Jayme says:

“15 years (by 2030) and all human life is extinct due to irreversible climate change and Fukushima #4 poisoning the world.”

I don’t believe it. If this were true, there’d be a dead zone around Chernobyl today. Life is severly damaged there, but all humans wont be dead from Fukushima.

RIP Mike Ruppert! .. oh so very sad news :-(

after listening to the podcast, I´m really not convinced he did it.
But if he did it, I concur with @Mother Earth about these 2 ladies and that he probably was hanging with the wrong crowd at the wrong time.

The real help he obviously would have needed was nowhere around …

  35. Bev says:

    Ruppert was brave and good.

  36. Agnes says:

I feel so sick. He was/is a great hero. Goodbye, gentle giant.

  37. @Aether Force – uh, listen again. He said he had been waking up with the terrors; alluded to the fact that he had called Caroline to ‘save his life;’ his journey through the airport where he saw only terrible news on the tv and unsmiling faces; the fact that he asked his callers and co-hosts repeatedly how they cope and the need to keep each other going; the fact that he mentioned ‘suicide’ at LEAST three times in the ten minute Vice piece . . . jeeze, not everything is a conspiracy. More than 38,000 people PER YEAR kill themselves in the USA now. More than 22,000 use a gun to do so. As did Mike.

  38. Bruce says:

Shocking news. One of the lights. I doubt this is suicide.

  39. 623-3 says:

Lovely to see how many of the regular posters here feel “shocked” by Mike Ruppert’s death, and how much they admired him and whatever. But whenever there’s a news item about AGW, they flip and turn to everything which Mike himself despised.

Yes, Mike said he didn’t expect humanity to exist beyond 2040. And he put Fukushima as one of the issues. Read here people saying “it ain’t” because of Chernobyl. You ain’t got your facts right mate. Chernobyl was contained quite fast. It was only one reactor. There wasn’t an elevated spent fuel pool which is always 1 second away from destroying the northern hemisphere…

Anyways. Wonder when all these people living in denial will one day look back at what Mike said and start facing the reality of the climatic fuck-up we’ve been working (burning) so hard to create.

  40. jenna orkin says:

Some of these comments would make Mike turn in his grave-to-be. Mike lived with me from nov. 2006 til January, 2008 and was suicidal the entire time. he’d experimented with killing himself in Venezuela before that. while in nyc, he voluntarily entered psychiatric wards twice, an experience about which he later wrote. he tried various meds, none of which worked particularly well and some of which had disastrous results. he also explored numerous alternative therapies. some of them are still in the refrigerator.

Carolyn was a wonderful friend to him. what kind of mind does it take to turn ‘gratitude’ into ‘thankful for fossil fuels and therefore the enemy?’ I don’t know mimi german but she also sounds most interesting and kind.

mike would not approve of spending any further time disputing idle speculation.

  41. Jonathan says:

Mike Ruppert meant so much to me. He opened my mind he was my teacher and I looked up to him more than anyone.
Do know that they do have technology, microwave frequencies and brain hacking abilities to cause people to kill people and commit suicide. LOOK UP DR. BARRIE TROWLER he is a retired British miltary scientist and microwave weapon specialist.
He explains it all. I’m no suggesting or implying anything at this point. Just keep that in mind. Remember that Mike was recently taken to mainstream situations and listen to how it made him feel. Think about it

  42. Andrew says:

So sad to hear about this. Mike read a letter I wrote to him on the first episode of The Lifeboat Hour, and we’ve messaged on and off since. He meant a lot to me. Like he did to all of us.

If you knew even a little about him, you’d know there was no conspiracy. He went out his own way. He will be missed, and my heart goes out to Jenna and Stacey.

  43. 623-3 says:

In the movie Caligula they said: “Choosing the time of your death is the best way to defeat destiny”

  44. Spaniard says:

    @ jenna orkin

Thank you for dropping by and telling us something about him.

There is little I know about his life but what he told on his podcast and media appearances, and the little I have read from him. Although, it is true that I thought that mysticism and spirituality were taking the best part of him.

There was something incredibly noble about Michael Ruppert. I greatly empathized with him and felt for his personal errands- I am a difficult and emotionally driven person myself, and Michael played a role during my particular time of reckoning.

I can personally relate to his dark feelings, but I was maybe too young when I went through my own trough to loose perspective altogether. He really sounded like he could have used a friend. A true friend. One who would have been there for him along the years. The kind of friend I never heard him talk about.

No wonder he spent so much time talking about love and sensitivity. And energy. And empathy. It was written all over the freaking wall. It is written on the wall for us, too.

We are a social animal- we need friends, a lover and human affection. We are not made to live without them.

He loved and was loved. A wonderful human being

  45. Chris says:

    Listen to his last podcast.

There is NO WAYY this man killed himself. You are gullible if you think so.

  46. Agnes says:

Thank you, Jenna, for taking the time to post at such a tragic time for yourself. Thank you for regenerating him after his return. I remember your writings from what seems to be a million years ago. They were so well written and informative.

  47. jimekus says:

    Boomercided?

  48. Tom says:

Please! do not carry the world on your shoulders. Michael was an amazing guy! but he carried the world on his shoulders, feeling resposible to fix it. Don’t do that! Angels fly because they take themselves (and the world) lightly.

  49. Jayme says:

    @623-3

If you get back here. This is not an insult – I do the same thing – but you don’t know and your ignorance runs the scenario in your mind to the end of the world. This is reductio ad absurdum and is the kind of thing that leads to suicide or murder by belief that the world could somehow be controlled or should be different than it is.

If the core is as energetic as is being claimed, it may very well melt itself deep into the crust and seal itself. I don’t know but I do know that Chernobyl was a catastrophe and has caused much suffering but it didn’t end all mankind over much of any region in the vicinity. Mutations, reduction in health of the local ecosystem – yes. I personally would support shutting down all nuclear reactors except perhaps thorium type (if they work) due the short half-life of the radioactive waste isotopes among other reasons.

Nuclear Fission Confirmed as Source of More than Half of Earth’s Heat
    http://blogs.scientificamerican.com/observations/2011/07/18/nuclear-fission-confirmed-as-source-of-more-than-half-of-earths-heat/

  50. bloggulator says:

I first heard about this from someone who saw a link on the Facebook page of blogger and author Carolyn Baker. This is the source of the “suicide” explanation – which is now all over the web, and as of yet there is no corroborating independent source, police report, autopsy. Nothing. Baker claimed that his suicide had been “carefully planned” for a long time – however, he left no note and one would have expected that if he would want his followers to know why he was about to kill himself… especially as he had a radio broadcast on a few hours before he died.

  51. Collin says:

    R.I.P
I know the world may seem grim, especially to the people with enough processing power to see through the lies. When you work around such negativity you need some positive, and even if the positive seems so miniscule it needs to keep us going. Did we get independence from Brittan by getting depressed or did we take action?
Look, you can’t fault anyone with feeling hopeless, I’ve felt my fair share. But that’s what they want. They want us to feel hopeless and just roll over and submit.

BUT THAT WON’T HAPPEN! YOU CAN IMPRISON ME, YOU CAN ABUSE ME, SHOOT ME OR TORTURE ME BUT I WILL ALWAYS BE A FREE & LOVING HUMAN BEING.

  52. Jayme says:

  53. Bob in DC says:

Never followed Mike Ruppert. Heard of him, of course.

Don’t understand suicide much. People driven to it by physical or emotional pain? That’s a rational possibility.

I don’t think I would do it, but don’t know the future.

That’s it: I don’t know the future — good or bad!

    Neither do you.

    RIP, soldier.

  54. Jessica Ann says:

This is a terrible tragedy! I feel blessed to have been able to have met Mike before he left this earth. I had just moved in next door to him in Calistoga a little over a month ago. Moving to Calistoga seeking my own truth I felt the universe had dropped me next door to this spiritually wise man purposely!

In Aug. of 2012 I began my own spiritual re-awakening after returning from a month in Ashland, Or were I went to seek healing from major life altering events that had triggered severe depression in my life. I began my own spiritual journey thru yoga and mediation & thru my walk I can relate to the trials of what Mike may have been going thru. I believe the more spiritually awakened we become the more sensitive we are to the negative energies of this world. As one evolves from the ways of society and of the world it can feel quite maddening at times. Some refer to this as ascension and/or spiritual warfare!

I can attest to this first had! Not only thru my own spiritual quest but also through witnessing that of a few close others in my life. I full hardheartedly believe that the evil of this world is what killed him. The closer one gets to truth and enlightenment the more we do indeed open ourselves up to spiritual warfare! The evil of this world does not want the good in this world to prevail and an honored life is not an easy one!

And I agree with @Spainard that mankind does need each other! We are taught by society to be alone to do without others in this world – but kinship with others of like-mind is necessary in this battle we are fighting on earth! We were made to fellowship with one another to draw closer together during these times of darkness – because yes we are under attack by forces that are unseen in this 3d world.

I am saddened his life on earth was cut so short. The few conversations I was able to have with Mike will resonate with me forever. Dont let the how of his death overshadow the who of what he stood for! Only he can tell us what his final thoughts and internal struggles were. Let his final words be lessons to us – without the focus being on suicide, depression, or on labeling.

I pray that whoever follows in your footsteps Mike will have the strength and fellow kinship needed to continue on with your work! God bless you for all the eyes you opened and for always seeking TRUTH!

  55. @jenna – I concur with those above; thanks for leaving your post at this difficult time for you.

  56. 623-3 says:

    @Jayme

“This is not an insult – I do the same thing – but you don’t know and your ignorance runs the scenario in your mind to the end of the world. This is reductio ad absurdum and is the kind of thing that leads to suicide or murder by belief that the world could somehow be controlled or should be different than it is.”

Probably I’ really ignorant. It’s just that knowing that never since the advent of homo sapiens the atmosphere had over 400ppm of CO2. That the scientific community, very conservatively, estimate that there are 15 years left to avoid catastrophic climate change by the end of the century (which might probably mean, as following the trends, that time is over and catastrophic climate change will occur much faster). That humanity managed to create radioisotopes that won’t go away in over a million years and whose toxicity towards life tops anything known until now. That our energy supplies are limited and wont manage to last our ever increasing consumption. That most if not all nuclear fission power plants are one brownout away from blowing up, etc… Much of what Mike kept telling over and over. And if that sounds like a happy ending, well, there’s a leap of faith there I just can’t make.

“I don’t know but I do know that Chernobyl was a catastrophe and has caused much suffering but it didn’t end all mankind over much of any region in the vicinity.”

Chernobyl was only ONE reactor. And it was sealed away quite fast (and with much sacrifice). Fukushima comprises 3 to 4 reactors which melted. They are still not contained. And then there’s the spent fuel pool over reactor #4 which is one second or error away from going critical and spreading a cloud of plutonium over the northern hemisphere. The differences between Chernobyl and Fukushima can’t be greater.

As for the link posted. That has nothing to do with AGW, sorry. It’s about the earth’s core.

  57. Matt says:

Please listen to Jenna Orkin. She is talking sense. I’ve followed MCR for 12 years now and was concerned about him in the last year. Little things he said seemed to hint at suicidal ideation and I felt this was confirmed in the Vice documentary – he talked about going to the mountains to kill himself in the part2 and part3 itself. He’d run out of money and was getting older and this causes enormous stress in itself. Three weeks ago on the radio show he just mentions in passing that this whole ‘spiritual’ life he was setting up in the mountains had been left and he’s now in a trailer in LA. Then he mentions he loves Jesse Rae and it seems like he has possibly eloped with her following some sort of confrontation or trouble at the settlement. His ‘great friend’ Doug seems to have been discarded on the way, or was it the other way around? I was worried that he wouldn’t survive the harsh winter on his own – Jesse seems to have fed him at this time. I then thought that this new love interest and media interest would give him much to go on for but it seems I was wrong. I am very shocked and very upset by this. Ten years ago the man was absolutely at the top of his game, and offered probably the best analysis of 911 going. He taught everyone so much and I feel I’ve lost a friend.

I always thought Mike was so desperate for love but never seemed to find any and would attach to people quickly perhaps too quickly. How I wish this hadn’t happened. With great sorrow RIP Michael. This is an end of an era for me. Tears.

  58. R.I.P. Michael C. Ruppert.

Tragic news, and another victim of depression it appears. Michael will be missed.

The best tribute that I can think of, is to continue his fight. There are practical alternatives to our addiction to fossil fuels. Tidal power is predictable, and could theoretically supply all the energy that humans would ever need.

When people see a working example of a practical energy harnessing apparatus, the argument is over. How much does it cost to build? how long does it take to recover the investment? are the two main questions left.

This is a vast topic, which I am sure Mike Ruppert was familiar with. We must promote sustainable development, and provide the seed capital to make it happen.

If we do that, we will be paying Mike Ruppert the best tribute! because we will be making his dreams come true!

  59. Hugh Janus says:

Thick numbskulls like Alex Jones,Luke Rudecowski,Les Jameison and Ralph Schoenman ran the 9/11 truth movement into the ground with their misinfo and disinfo while Mike Ruppert,a legitimate and brilliant man was forced to step aside for fear of being lined up with such saps.
It must have been painful for Ruppert to watch those clowns scuttle something he cared so deeply about alerting the world of.

If those examples are now topping themselves. How, why soldier on? Stacy?

  61. Jason Westonbridge says:

It is possible that he killed himself, but it is more likely that he (like others who have conveniently either been “murdered” or “commited suicide”) has been too much of a thorn in the side of the government or other agencies, that they decided to just get rid of him and make it look like suicide. They are completely calculating and ruthless to achieve their aims and will eliminate anybody who exposes them and/or their machinations. He was a brave soul and will be missed.

Thanks Stacy for the comments regarding Mike. My introduction to Mike was Crossing the Rubicon. I obtained a pre-screener for “Collapse” and was a collapse-net member until he quit. I had several e-correspondences with him and considered him an avuncular person in my life. I’m glad to see many posts expressing the great sense of loss…I feel devastated and haven’t had enough time to or frankly, the desire presently, to “investigate” his death. It hurts big time.

I don’t remember how I first came across the KRep- it was around the 50ish episode mark. Interviews with Mike were great. Again, it’s good to know Stacy/Max have this up on the site- a place where ppl can can comment. Still can’t bring myself to listen to the last lifeboat hour, but I’ll be listening to Sundays’ broadcast. Don’t have much to say beyond that, I’m going to wait a bit b4 looking into the circumstances surrounding his death. Abby Martins’ fairwell expressed my feelings on his passing.

I had no idea he was in LA (recently?)

He loved music obviously and (me being a one) I can’t think of a better way to honor his life by making an album as a memorandum re: Mikes’ life. He’d love that.
