[KR388] Keiser Report: Hierarchy of Fraud

We discuss the newly knighted, Sir Hector Sants, the catastrophic ambition of global bank fraud and the merger of the police state and the banks in the suppression of Occupy Wall Street. In the second half of the show, Max Keiser talks to ‘the Thomas Jefferson of the internet,’ John Perry Barlow about his new website, pressfreedomfoundation.org, started with John Cusack and Daniel Ellsberg and dedicated to circumventing financial blockades and, thus, enabling donations to such groups as WikiLeaks and others dedicated to transparency and journalism.

Brilliant episode! Really enjoyed it, especially the interview with John Perry Barlow!

Though one thing: It sounded to me that Max thinks that encryption is somehow bad (that’s at least the feel I got from his question to JPB). I think that encryption is a good thing, because people have the right to private and secret communication, and when governments break that right with total surveillance, people have the right to protect themselves and their communications by encrypting them.

I’m kinda surprised that the Freedom of Press Foundation doesn’t accept Bitcoin as a way of donating journalistic organizations. Maybe they will change that in the future. Though they could also start accepting donations in gold and silver coins. 😉

If you stood outside the “Yesterdays” front door, ringing a bell and shouting “do not shop here anymore” people would wonder … what the hell do you think you are doing? Old ideas like bordered, money farms, stitched together with politics, false rule of law, false leadership and religions, insure that the presence of, exponential clusters of today’s global variants cannot be placed, on the triage bench. Instead, mankind is set off in the margins, like a Tunic of Nessus … “Metaphorically, it represents “a source of misfortune from which there is no escape; a fatal present”

Retail Sales Confirm “You Can’t Spend What You Don’t Have” http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2013-01-03/retail-sales-confirm-you-cant-spend-what-you-dont-have

The trendretail sales is most explicitly lower. As Bloomberg Brief notes, consumer incomes are in a fragile state and between the ATRA deal and a ‘stable’ at best unemployment picture, it seems that the YoY change in retail sales is indicating per capita disposable income is set to decline further. As Rich Yamarone concludes: it appears “You can’t spend what you don’t have.”

It seems ‘tax-the-rich’ is also misfiring as those making over $90k per year report recent spending at its lowest for this time of year since 2008.

As the WSJ notes, Spain has been quietly tapping the country’s richest piggy bank, the Social Security Reserve Fund, as a buyer of last resort for Spanish government bonds – with at least 90% of the €65 billion ($85.7 billion) fund has been invested in increasingly risky Spanish debt.

Of course, this is nothing new, the US (and the Irish) have been using quasi-government entities to fund themselves in a mutually-destructive circle-jerk for years – the only difference being there are other buyers in the Treasury market, whereas in Spain the marginal buyer is critical to support the sinking ship.

The pensioners sum it up perfectly “We are very worried about this, we just don’t know who’s going to pay for the pensions of those who are younger now,” or those who are older we would add.

Al Jazeera Embraces Cable TV, Loses Web

Al Jazeera used the Web to build a following in America, which it hopes to exploit on cable television through Wednesday’s purchase of Current TV. But to keep cable operators happy, Al Jazeera may have to make a difficult bargain: Giving up on the Web.

The Qatar government-backed television news operation, which acquired Current TV for a few hundred million dollars from investors including Al Gore, said Thursday that it will at least temporarily stop streaming online Al Jazeera English, its global English-language news service, in about 90 days. That’s when it plans to replace Current TV’s programming with Al Jazeera English.

    Boy, are these people stupid!

While prosecuting the wrongdoers is clearly not part of the new normal (see Sokol et al.), what Nanex found this morning beggars belief – both in its method of manipulation and clarity that our regulators are clueless. As they note, the high frequency traders (HFT) are at it again. Contorting the spirit of the rules, because those who wrote the rules aren’t technically savvy. On January 4, 2013, we found another instance of HFT morphing their manipulative and illegal quote stuffing strategy in an effort to fly under the radar.

Why they don’t just stop this manipulative practice altogether tells us a few things. First, this isn’t some coding error, this is sophisticated cheating. And second, because they are spending valuable programming time on this strategy, there must be some real economic advantage. Which mean a disadvantage to everyone trading against them.
