Selling the cow to buy the milk

Huge funds (like sovereign wealth funds) are frustrated by the near zero rates of return on offer (due to central banks refusing to let rates rise with their QE programs), use their considerable political leverage to get governments (like the UK) to change or modify laws allowing them to buy key income producing assets like roads – so that their return on investment bumps up to 8 – 9% (from 1/2 %). Citizens end up losing the key income producing asset that their taxes built and maintained for generations. They also will be subjected to rampant transport cost rises – as reckless, loose monetary policies continue to debase the Pound – forcing the new roads owners to ‘keep up with inflation’ by jacking up road access costs. This is a clear wealth transfer scheme orchestrated by Cameron and Osborne at the expense of the British tax payer.

Areas in the UK can be demarcated by the state of the roads as well as the size/state of the homes. These days I will regularly avoid poor areas and drive the long way round to save pothole ware on the car. We already pay what is probably the highest price for driving fuel in the world.

This issue will be as massive as the NHS and Cameron will be taken down over both. The UK public love driving and they will bring the whole place to a stand still to stop it.

  2. JailBanksters says:

It just shows how desperate a governments gets when they have to make a quick buck. You can only sell them once, and the public ends up paying more and more until infinity and beyond with an ever increasing degradation of the service. What can the public do, nothing.

  3. MirrorMirror says:

    @flicks .. I agree .
You only have to look at what they did to British Rail.
My last train trip from Gatwick was a nightmare.
I am no scaredycat , but even ‘I’ was worried whether the train would stay on the track…. not to mention the fact that there is never enough seating space & the EXTORTIONATE prices they charge.
And of course, many of those Rail “Managers” are now unjustly getting 6-figure salaries, thanks to “privatization” .

The crazier the ideas, the more it should be clear that they have no real solution.
    – Sell reoads that were paid for by tax
    – 100 year gilts to own the grand grand children
    – etc

Why oh why don’t they wake up?

  5. Hegelian Dialectic says:

“… Cameron, who is fully supported by the chancellor, will make clear that the poor state of Britain’s infrastructure and its public finances means that bold steps have to be taken. ”
You mean like using the money that is generated by the roads to actually FIX the roads?
Of course , the next logical step is for Camoron & Co. to sell your left nut to these hedge funds.

  6. Blah blah says:

The only roads I can see being used heavily after this stunt are the roads to the nearest exit. Anyone that hasn’t at least considered leaving for somewhere with better prospects is living with a paper bag over their head.
The road system in this nation (certainly for commuting) is shocking for a multitude of reasons, one of the major ones being that any alternative is outpriced and woefully run – Yes Mr. Branson I am talking about your trains and your robber baron ilk’s.
Rip Off Britain just became Piss Take Britain.

  7. Citizen119 says:

This proposed legislation is simply the continued implementation of
UN Agenda 21. The most in your face legislation which nobody can see.
It has various names, “sustainable development” seems to be the
current favourite, but it’s got various other identities.
The NWO requires governments everywhere to dispose of any and all
publicly owned assets, so that they can be exploited by Corporations.
Everything is for sale, Cameron has already floated the idea of selling
off woodlands, rivers and open land are also for disposal.
Under Agenda 21, a blueprint for the 21st Century, not one of us is now
secure in our homes. Building density is now at a minimum of 18
homes to the acre (45 to the hectare), which is why rabbit warren
housing estates are being thrown up all over the place.
If it’s decided that a sustainable development should replace the
houses in which you and your neighbours live, then the greater
good prevails, and your properties will be removed.
In 100 years, many areas of our towns will be replaced by closed off areas,
and housing blocks resembling down town Moscow.
Agenda 21 regards private property rights as a danger to the environment.

BTW, Mr Panetta has admitted that the American armed forces are now
under the complete control of the UN and Nato.
    Will Bomber Obama be impeached?

We pay the highest fule duty in the world in the UK i think along side Car tax , and then the government tell you the road infrastruture needs more investement, you know this money is not going back into the infrastructue system.

The UK is well and truely finished i for one have taken the fist steps into looking into emmigration , and its really sad but the Bristish people are way to distracted and uneducated to put up any significant resistance to this.

Still everyone i talk to about how all this was going to happen do not even bat an eyelid and look at me like i am weird to be irate that this is happening.

As much as i want everyone to wake up in the UK its not going to happen, no one will care until they are eating baked beans with a stick out a dumpster beneath a moterway underpass.

The UK is well on its way into oblivion

    @Blah Blah

It all boils down to the Ponzi Monetary system.
The Financialization of everything by robbing country’s of their infrastructure via selling out to private interests with the help of the Bank’s Fake Money.

e.g. : There is an Outlet centre near Southhampton which had cost a fortune such that small shops couldn’t afford the rents , and eventually gave up after ca. 9 years.
The last time we visited, it was closed off – now a building site . I asked a Cafe owner what had happened ; she said they were rebuilding it into a luxury hotel complex with shopping centre and residential flats…. and will cost hundreds of millions to do it …. Money grows on trees of course !

BTW …. it is interesting to compare the development of Squash Court Centres in Germany versus the UK – a theme I know about from the inside.

Basically, the price for playing 1 hour of squash was about 10x that of the UK some 20 years ago.
The reason ? … the German projects were financed with 100% loans ( Fremdkapital ) ; the UK squash courts were nearly always financed with cash ( Eigenkapital = own capital ) . In Germany’s case , the Operating profit only just covered the interest charges.
The result was that these German projects often changed ownership as the owners gave up – seeing it as a dead loss.

Three cases I know about – in depth :
    # one Centre was repeatedly re-rebought by sucessive banks ( ownership changed every few years )
    # another case , the owner “leased” to Centre to a 3rd. party such that the bank couldn’t forclose
    # another case .. it was converted for other uses.

I only know of one case that survived “ownership” , because an heiress of one of Germany’s largest Companies bought a 50% share and kicked the banks out. A very nice ( & kind hearted ) lady BTW …. a good friend as well. A pity there aren’t more people like her. BTW … she had a personal interest as well … in working there herself on occasions – to have contact to “normal” people – and has made many friends there since.

Thinking more on this subject I was also taken with how it will be implemented when dealing with development of new infrastructure. Roads need vast tracts of land, the implications for this are many – land grabs of green belt, removal of unsalable housing stock stinking up banking balance sheets for a healthy return, there are a myriad of issues that could arise off the back of this plan depending on how it is implemented that are not at first glance associated with the cost of road travel. I see no good coming from this course taken by Cameron. Well, no good for the average Joe.

  11. ausneil says:

get out of the uk while you can, the best move i ever made. It is run by treacherous thieving scum. so sad to see how they have destroyed the country and trying to destroy its people

  12. bit chin says:

@MirrorMirror – interesting observations about capital used to front a company- if it is the tax payers or if it is private.

Private money does have a tendency to look for profits in the short-term to cover its bets (hence loans and the profits pay of the interest + whatever is left is profit. This is the only business model I would expect to be operating for the foreseeable future). Public (tax payers) money is party to the blood-boiling fraud and theft of short-term party politics. A sell-off of every UK asset is inevitable in the current climate.

@All – Emigrate? To where? I would emigrate due to financial turmoil. Problem is: show me a place where financial turmoil doesn’t exist. We are all locked into this shit. Every hedge fund manager is shitting themself, noone knows where the safe bets are. All talks of any escape is just blowing off steam and ‘the grass is greener’. I’m ready to emigrate but waiting to see which land provides some shelter from the storm by disassociating itself from the ‘free market’ (gotta love the irony)

Important Message From JWR: The FBI’s Cookie Caper and the VPN Imperative

It has come to my attention that from August of 2011 to November of 2011, the FBI secretly redirected the web traffic of more than 10% of SurvivalBlog’s US visitors through CJIS, their sprawling data center situated on 900 acres, 10 miles from Clarksburg, West Virginia. There, the Feebees surreptitiously collected the IP addresses of my site visitors.

In all, 4,906 of 35,494 selected connections ended up going to or through the FBI servers. (Note that this happened several months before we moved our primary server to Sweden.) Furthermore, we discovered that the FBI attached a long-lived cookie that allowed them to track the sites that readers subsequently visited.

I suspect that the FBI has done the same to hundreds of other web sites. I find this situation totally abhorrent, and contrary to the letter of 4th Amendment as well as the intent of our Founding Fathers.

I recognize that I am making this announcement at the risk of losing some readers. So be it. But I felt compelled to tell my readers immediately, because it was the honorable and forthright course of action.

Working on my behalf, some volunteer web forensics experts dissected some cached version histories. (Just about everything is available on the Internet, and the footprints and cookie crumb trails that you leave are essentially there for a lifetime.) The volunteers found that the bulk of the FBI redirects were selected because of a reader’s association with “Intellectual Property” infringing sites like the now defunct Megaupload.

But once redirected, you were assigned a cookie.

However, some of these were direct connections to the SurvivalBlog site (around 4% of the total.) So if they had kept this practice up long enough and if you visited us enough times then the FBI’s computers would have given you a cookie. This has been verified with sniffer software.

  14. Peter Jennings says:

These fucking Tory and now Lib Dem scum are seriously pushing their luck. This Camoron is a twat and thinks he can just implement these throw-back policies and the people will take it. He is an idiot gone mad. He doesn’t know what century he is living in.

The people in this country are boiling and these pricks can’t see it because they don’t exist in the real world but swan about in a protected bubble. Interesting to see the old war monger Rothschild(The Red Shield) getting involved. They are so arrogant these days that they publish their robbery in the papers. Now we will have people being moved off their land by private companies. Haven’t we learned anything over the past millennium?

The next uprising won’t be like the Rebecca riots, but the Welsh have shown us the way before. This time with the backing of the forces because they are fed up with guarding Afghan poppy fields and getting shot-up, for what…?

I say let them carry on with their mad schemes. Only then, will the masses have a collective and cohesive wake-up.

More like Cam’moron got swindled on the way and swapped the UK’s roads on the FTSE for a handful of magic beans.

  16. david says:

@ peter jennings – trouble is britain is not like france ie one for all and all for one. Its more like one for one and all for non. I like what the french did with the wheel clamps. They all superglued the locks and two weeks later the clamps were withdrawn. Could you see that happening in the uk? Besides those with something in the uk are scared of losing what they have. They will agree to anything to keep what they have, even if it meant selling their sister down the river. Britain is run in a utilitarian fashion.

  17. Alf says:

@all…I totally agree…but nobody sums Cameron up better than the ordinary
    British cabbie…lol.

  18. Mervyn King says:

Max – no way Camoron will ever get this one implemented – the UK public will go ballistic if he tries to go through with it.

  19. Andrew Stocks says:

Who will pay to maintain the road bridges as they are the most expensive bits of any transport system. We will end up with expensive toll roads and decrepit bridges leading nowhere. David Byrne was right.

  20. Alf says:

As the Cabbie said, its a smokescreen to force through the failing NHS Bill.
That’s the big prize for Cameron and his cronies.
Remember…this guy was 1st with phony kony and I think he’s right here.

  21. I precariat says:

Wow I wish people in the uk had adopted that French method of dealing with wheel clampers. For stopping five minutes in a restaurant car park I ended up having to pay £500 to the clampers.
Re. Emigration…. Others have asked the same question…I’m so disillusioned with the uk and wonder where I can go with my three (young adult) kids, to maybe offer them brighter prospects?? Any suggestions out there?

  22. F. Beard says:

And as Max has often pointed out, it is likely that the buyout would be financed with counterfeit money, so-called “credit”! So why doesn’t the UK Government just create the money itself to finance itself as it has a perfect right to do?

  23. Alf says:

The Conservatives have a long standing tradition of keeping the ordinary
working man nailed down to serfdom…why create money and make life
easy when ordinary people might have a penny or two of savings
stashed away for a rainy day…bleed them dry.

  24. KaylaF says:

This may be new for the UK, but not for the US. I bet the average Britt, like the average American rolls over nice and easy for the Nanny state, they always do. Too busy watching Television to notice.
Soon all roads will be toll roads. I have seen the plans. All it is for is money. It makes traffic worse, causes more accidents, and costs the entire county money because goods and people are not moving like they should. When you take a 6 lane highway and reserve 2 lanes for 10 paying cars…. it causes huge problems. Stores get late shipments. More fuel is burned sitting in traffic jams costing the drivers more who then charge higher costs for delivery, the list goes on and on. All it is for is BIG money for these companies who spend all day wining and dinning your local elected jackasses, while you slave away at work to pay the new toll. The lobbyists spend all day usurping their fellow citizens for personal gain. Scumbags. The tolls in South Florida to get to work can be as high as an hours wage, $8+. Then the toll back home is the same, so some poor person just worked for FREE for 2 hours so a private company can turn a profit off a road that was built and maintained via the persons tax money over the last 20 years.
10 labor hours are now gone for that person per week, same as getting a demotion or a cut in pay. A 25% loss in take home wages. 25%! Evey gallon of gas we buy has a .50 cent road tax… did they remove the road tax now that the city has no roads of its own? Hell no!

Soon local streets right up to your driveway will be a toll road, all using “convenient” electronic transponders called a “Sunpass”. Want to drive to work, all toll roads, grocery store? Toll roads. It used to be just major highways were affected, now small city roads will have “express” lanes for paying travelers. We are always told via the propaganda networks (TV, radio) about how “convenient” and how much time this whole mess will “save” me.

  25. MirrorMirror says:

@Alf …. “As the Cabbie said, its a smokescreen to force through the failing NHS Bill.”

    Yes .. LOL

I can just imagine the scene in YES MINISTER :

Secretary : “Prime Minister, why don’t you just tell them you’re going to privatize the roads ; that’ll keep’em occupied until the NHS bill is through”

    PM : “I can’t do that … that’s lying”

Secretary : “No Prime Minister, that’s not lying … that’s just keeping your job”

  26. MirrorMirror says:

@KayLaF …”Too busy watching Television to notice.”

… have you seen UK TV recently ? .. and there are people actually watching “that” ?
Holy smoke – even Coronation Street has long lost dear old Ena Sharples.

If she (Violet Carson ) was alive today , I’d vote for her like a shot.

“I speak my mind without fear nor favour” :

  27. Alf says:

Yeah…Yes Minister, has got a reputation in political circles for being extremely
close to the truth…but I think Cameron is far funnier…shit, what about Boris
    Johnson, there’s a series

  28. sounds like a libertarian DYSTOPIA ….. not only will corporations spy on you 24/7, they will now control transportation to keep “undesirables” out of certain areas.

  29. Harry says:

    – 100 year gilts
    – selling roads etc
It all just shows how the normal means have been exhausted or how insane they have become.
    Or what?
I mean: what sane person would even propose these?

  30. Becky says:

@ All – too good! Too true.

It’s a bit like Africa then…getting help with roads etc..! This will start to do it – I think people will start to Wake up now, and it might even get New Labour back in Power, as they’ve been ecking ahead in the polls. Good old Dave! Clever.

  33. Becky says:

Am “dead on my feet” now!! Must kip now. LOVE THE PICTURE ;^D But trust me, unless I see your shining soul, I have great taste in that department. But he does know better – he’s just a consummate liar. He is going to lie his way out of the next Election! Or at least the Leadership.
