O.K. I can’t see how this touches the freedom of information. Just a matter of price at it seems, as stated when there are multiple computers at use causing extremly high traffic they want to restrict that or you have to pay: No big deal.

  2. R says:

I’ve been trying to figure out how this is actually different. I have Internet in Canada and it’s already capped at a certain level, after which you get charged overage. I am confused as to how this announcement makes a difference.

This is why I wouldn’t subscribe to any Movie streaming service.. eats too much bandwidth.

  3. Daniel S says:

There’s a well established history of Canadians getting screwed in the information market. From poor families spending a small fortune on encyclopedias back in the day, to paying some of the highest rates for cell phone service, and paying for books as if our dollar were 66 cents of the US dollar while within a nickel of parity.

Canadians like to angle for themselves rather than fight for each other. They’ve been successfully divided into a myriad of camps. So the monopolists and oligopolists know to give the more demanding of their trapped market a way to get screwed a little less if they’re savvy. In this way, the pressure is vented and the markets remain captive.

  4. sexton says:

my rates are already up. thanks a lot you greedy fucking assholes at the federal level. Where ever there is revenue there is tax. Got to stay on top of things and the federal gov. was a little behind on this opportunity.

  5. paul says:

stay a sleep and pay up sheeple
    you just love being screwed.
just love big corporations, they make so much EASY money from the poor.

  9. The problem is government interference in the economy and coolluding with big corps, causing only huge corps to run everything which decimates the markets ability to eliminate abuses through competition. More regulations to compensate for government caused abuses only makes it worse. Eliminate government interference in the economies of the world, and stop their collusion with big corps. That’s the only real solution, not more regulations.

  10. John Q Public says:

CRTC (Canadian Radio and Televison Controller) Was first set up to protect Canadian Content by then Francophone PM Trudeau so Canada would keep its French English Identity. A platform of the Original Reform Party was to get rid of it. Notice the title does not include Telephone or Internet which they have no business in. Since this Goverment agency gotten Bigger and wanting more power its is out of control. It issues Licensed Monopolies then when the Licensce Holders complain they issue more and more increases on Canadains. If the Monopoly Internet backbone that you issued a exclusive Club License Holders cant make it open it up to other not just protect and increase your Licensed Clubs Rates. Open it up Internet licensing let the free market work this seem like censorship. Canada the land of the free.

  11. John Q Public says:

I just wanted to add Canada does not have an independant Internet it all goes to an American Hub for their viewing and enjoyment then comes back. So if the American Hubs get disabled we have no internet. This could be the route cost increases does this fall under Nafta? Bring out the Modems again friends.

  12. Marc Authier says:

    @John Q Public

Bullshit. I was mostly set up by the industry to protect oligopolies. The CRTC is a copy of the FCC. You stupid racist from English Canada. The CRTC is almost the carbon of the FCC in the USA.
