    Hi Stace!

    Funny thing: lately, like the last month or two, I keep getting this same opening page at my Yahoo! email address.

    With news from two months ago, very weird. Take a look, this is TODAY’s “headlines” in my email homepage…did I travel back in time when I wasn’t paying attention???

    * Boats head to teen sailor drifting in Indian Ocean (AP)

    AP – A 16-year-old sailor on a round-the-world journey alone was drifting in the frigid, rough southern Indian Ocean on Friday as rescue boats headed toward her yacht, damaged by 30-foot waves that knocked out her communications and prompted her to set off a distress signal.
    * Van der Sloot charged with first-degree murder (AP)
    * Pope begs forgiveness, promises action on abuse (AP)
    * Less spending by Americans could slow recovery (AP)

    Silver going to $30: James Turk. That is just a quick resting place, a “refueling” for the final lift-off. I’m IN!!!

    Gold? Man….I want to buy, I know it is going to go up, I am holding to $2730…….but man it is hard to pull the trigger on gold….and just TRY to buy an oz or so for anything NEAR Spot: impossible.

    I see new Philharmonics listed @ $1390. Unbelievable. For all intents and purposes, gold IS at $1400. Unless you’re Maxie and order it by the ton. Just back your limo up here Mr. Keiser…I’ll shovel it in!

    We all wonder ( I think) why the masses don’t overthrow their exploiters ( or havn’t yet ). Here’s a bit from Bataille -‘The Notion of Expenditure’ , comparing feelings for the old nobility and the new bourgeois;

    “And it’s right to recognise that the people are incapable of hating them as much as their former masters, to the extent that they are incapable of loving them, for the bourgeois are incapable of concealing a sordid face, a face so rapacious and lacking in nobility, so frighteningly small, that all human life, upon seeing it seems degraded.
    In opposition, the people’s conciousness is reduced to maintaining profoundly the principle of expenditure by representing bourgeois existence as the shame of man and as a sinister cancellation.”

    Fuck sake. Battaille suggests a few other forms of expenditure though; a bit of orgiastic violence for a start. Nice.

    Don’t worry, there’s some good news later on ( in ‘The Notion of Expenditure’);

    “As for the masters and the exploiters, whose function is to create the contemptuous forms that exlude human nature – causing this nature to exist at the limits of the earth, in other words in mud – a simple law of reciprocity requires that they be condemned to fear, to the great night when their beautiful phrases will be drowned out by the death screams in riots. That is the bloody hope which each day, is one with the existence of the people, and which sums up the insobordinate content of the calss struggle.”

  25. Tao Jonesing says:

    “Grim numbers up to 41% of corporate profits going to the financial sector.”

    Take those numbers with a grain of salt.

    The way the BEA calculates corporate profits is to count all profits worldwide for nominally American corporations without regard to whether or not any taxes are paid on those profits under the theory that citizens that are human beings who pay taxes must pay taxes regardless of where they earn money. This is not true for corporations, who do not pay taxes on profits made outside of the U.S. unless that money finds its way back to the U.S. The result is that some of the big banks pay far less than the 35% nominal corporate rate (in some cases 0-5%).

    If the BEA were to tell the real story, I think that popular support for the neoliberal’s false conception of “free markets” would fall through the floor. Offshoring equals decapitalization, and the de facto industrial policy of the U.S. is to strip mine the country of its wealth and invest it in other countries. We’re being turned into a giant ghetto.

    One In Six Americans Now Receives Government Aid

  27. Illinois Brandon says:

    Among Blacks and Latino the amount needing government aid is more like 1 in 4. Whites on average have more than twice the yearly incomes of blacks. The US has the worst inequality in the west but it has a huge racial element to it. For Latinos two thirds of them make less than $30,000 a year. I fear this could cause a race war in the US. What is your view?

    As an individual,You have a mind and you people. Instead of fighting the entrenched reality. Abandon the monetary system and build a new prototype that makes the monetary system obsolete. Your collective, commentary on these makes it clear; we must.

    @Marc A. ….

    Was just browsing through that PDF … pretty scary really :

    Constitutional Money: Gold or silver. Ignoring judicial interpretations of the Constitution and federal law, many antigovernment extremists claim that gold and silver are the only constitutional forms of money in the United States

    >Precious Metal Dealers: Dealers in gold and silver who form perhaps the most significant source of financial support for the “patriot” movement. Gold and silver dealers such as Viking International, Discount Gold and Silver Trading Company, and others sponsor shortwave radio programs whose hosts urge people to put all their money into gold and silver so they can survive the “coming collapse.” These cynical dealers will accept Federal Reserve Notes in exchange for precious metals.

    Vegan: Many animal rights activists …….
    Genetically Altered Crops: One target of environmental …….

    The good jobs are lost forever. At the end of 1970, high-paid manufacturing jobs (goods produced) accounted for 30.6% of total non-farm jobs. By July 2010, manufacturing employment had collapsed to only 13.8% of the total. While manufacturing jobs were declining absolutely by 16.8%, relatively low-paying service producing jobs were exploding by 128.5% to rise from 69.4% to 86.2% of total employment. (Source:

    Globalisation has proven to be a boon to finance capitalists, but a cruel hoax to most middle-class wage earners. Just about any domestic industry one can name has been either gutted or suffered a substantial body blow from the forces of offshoring. Aside from foodstuffs, around 70% of all goods sold at WalMart were manufactured in China. This happens while effective unemployment in the US is somewhere around 20%!

    As long as the Gospel of Globalisation is promulgated by the plutocratic elites; their lackeys in government and academia; and the venal media; the plight of the working and middle classes can only worsen. It seems as though the solution to the age-old problem of distribution of scarce resources is being resolved in favour of pauperisation of the masses and creation of a small, permanent elite who will continue to enjoy the bountiful fruits which this planet offers.
